Athletics – Nurturing Champions
At THE AIC GIRL’S SENIOR SCHOOL, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. We recognise the importance of sports and athletics in developing discipline, confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership among our learners.
Our athletics programme provides learners with opportunities to discover and develop their talents while representing the school at different levels of competition. Through dedicated training, commitment from our learners and support from our teachers and coaches, we continue to nurture young people who have the potential to excel both nationally and internationally.
Celebrating a World Champion – Josephine Sempeyo Mancha
One of the greatest sources of pride in our athletics journey is Josephine Sempeyo Mancha, a talented former/current learner of our school who has demonstrated that determination, discipline and hard work can take a young athlete to the highest level of international competition.
Josephine made history by winning gold in the women’s 1500 metres at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Her outstanding performance placed her at the top of the world in the Under-20 1500m event and brought immense pride to Kenya and her community. Reports celebrating her achievement describe her as a World U20 1500m champion.
Her success is more than a sporting achievement. It is an inspiration to every learner who dreams of becoming an athlete, professional, or leader. Josephine’s journey demonstrates that talent, when combined with consistent training, discipline, perseverance, and the right support, can open doors to the world stage.
Her achievement in Eugene, Oregon, is a powerful reminder to our learners that greatness can begin on a school playing field. From local competitions to international championships, every race provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and believe in one’s potential.

Josephine’s success has also been celebrated by leaders and members of her community, who have recognised her achievement as an example of the extraordinary talent among young people in Kajiado and the wider Maa community.
